Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, a prominent Democrat, expressed deep apprehensions about the rhetoric used by former President Donald Trump. In an interview on MSNBC’s Inside with Jen Psaki on Sunday, November 19, Pritzker drew parallels between Trump’s language and the historical context of Nazi Germany.

Pritzker emphasized the unsettling nature of Trump’s statements, stating, The things that he talks about are frightening to those of us who know the history of Europe in the 1930s and 40s. He particularly highlighted concerns about Trump’s vengeful tendencies and their potential impact on groups unsupportive of him in the 2024 election, if he were to be re-elected.

These concerns were triggered by Trump’s recent speech in Claremont, N.H., where he vowed to root out the communists, Marxists, fascists, and the radical left thugs. Pritzker criticized the use of the term vermin, likening it to dehumanizing tactics employed by Adolf Hitler in 1930s Germany.

Governor Pritzker expanded his worries to the broader issue of rising hate in the United States, linking it to a tragic incident in Illinois. He condemned the killing of 6-year-old Wadea Al-Fayoume, a Palestinian American boy, attributing the perpetrator’s radicalization to right-wing media, specifically mentioning right-wing radio and television.

Highlighting the importance of collective awareness and vigilance, Pritzker urged society to confront and address the root causes of hate and radicalization. As tensions rise amid the Israel-Hamas conflict, Pritzker’s remarks underscore the need for a thoughtful response from political leaders and the public to the challenges at hand.
