Quiet Sunday night in Vivian, Louisiana, turned into a tragedy that’s now sending shockwaves through the tight-knit community. A 17-year-old has been arrested following the deadly shooting of 16-year-old Miranda Clements, who was found fatally wounded inside a home on Pardue Street.
Just before 8:30 p.m. on April 20, local police were called to the scene after reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found Miranda lying on the floor with a gunshot wound to her upper body. Despite the swift response from emergency personnel with Caddo Fire District 8, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Vivian Police Department immediately reached out to the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office, and a joint investigation began to piece together what led to the deadly incident. Though details remain limited, authorities confirmed that they were initially working to determine whether foul play had occurred.
Within hours, 17-year-old Wyatt Layne Sanders was arrested in connection with the shooting. He was booked into the Caddo Parish Correctional Center at 3:07 a.m. on April 21. Jail records show Sanders faces two counts of illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile and one count of negligent homicide.
He is currently still in custody, and the investigation is far from over. Officials have not yet released further information about what happened before the shooting or what may have led to the fatal gunfire. As law enforcement continues to gather evidence and speak to witnesses, the community is left mourning the loss of a young life taken far too soon.
