In a tragic incident in Kellogg, Idaho, Majorjon Kaylor, a 32-year-old man, has pleaded guilty to four counts of second-degree murder for killing his neighbor’s entire family, including Kenneth Guardipee (65), Kenna Guardipee (41), Devin Smith (18), and Aiken Smith (16). The brutal slayings occurred on Father’s Day, June 18, 2023, at a duplex.
Kaylor admitted to the murders, stating that he “snapped” and “lost it” after Devin Smith allegedly exposed himself to his wife and young daughter. Kaylor tried to confront the victims about the incident but felt they did not take him seriously. He then broke into their apartment and fatally shot them with a .45 caliber handgun.
The defendant claimed he acted out of a desire for vengeance for his family. Kaylor was arrested shortly after the incident and confessed to the killings.
As part of a plea deal, Kaylor pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, and prosecutors dropped the original charges of first-degree murder and felony burglary, avoiding the death penalty. The plea deal was reached after discussions mediated by a senior district judge, involving the parties and surviving relatives of the victims.
The family members accepted the plea deal to spare themselves a lengthy and painful trial and ensure that Kaylor would face life in prison without parole. They expressed grief and anger over the senseless loss of their loved ones, describing them as kind, loving, and hardworking individuals.
Kaylor is scheduled to be sentenced on March 25, 2024, by District Judge Scott Wayman, and he remains in custody at the Shoshone County Jail.
