29-year-old man, Byron Burkhart, has been charged with murder in connection with the tragic death of four-year-old Gor Adamyan in Lancaster, California. The incident, which occurred during a suspected road rage incident on December 15, has prompted legal action against Burkhart. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has brought forth charges of murder, attempted murder (two counts), shooting at an occupied vehicle, and possession of a firearm by a felon (five counts), as detailed in the criminal complaint obtained by CNN.
The disturbing events unfolded when Burkhart, accompanied by his girlfriend, allegedly engaged in aggressive driving maneuvers and road rage, resulting in a confrontation with the vehicle carrying Gor Adamyan and his parents. Pulling up beside the family’s car, Burkhart reportedly discharged eight shots into the vehicle, tragically striking the young boy. Despite immediate medical attention, Gor succumbed to his injuries, leaving his grieving parents unharmed.
The family, who were on their way to purchase groceries, found themselves in the midst of an unimaginable tragedy due to an encounter with the suspect driver. A GoFundMe page has been established for the Adamyan family, describing Gor as a vibrant child with a bright spirit.

Burkhart’s arrest was facilitated by the identification of his vehicle’s license plate through a camera in the family’s car. Both Burkhart and his girlfriend were taken into custody, though the latter was subsequently released due to insufficient evidence for charges, as confirmed by Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Mike Gomez.
Byron Burkhart, currently held on a $2 million bond, is set to be arraigned on January 22, with potential consequences including a life sentence if convicted on all charges. The Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office, representing Burkhart, has expressed a commitment to a vigorous defense, emphasizing the importance of holding the district attorney’s office to the burden of proof.
Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón expressed deep sympathy for the Adamyan family, acknowledging the profound pain they are enduring during what should be a joyous holiday season. The case underscores the devastating consequences of road rage and serves as a poignant reminder of the need for vigilance and responsible driving behavior on our roads.
