Former President Donald Trump’s ongoing legal battle took a heated turn as Judge Juan Merchan fined him $9,000 and issued a stern warning for violating a gag order in his New York criminal trial, per Mediaite’s report on April 30, 2024.
Judge Merchan found Trump guilty of breaching the gag order nine times, prompting the fine and a caution of potential incarceration for future violations. Emphasizing the court’s intolerance for willful breaches, Merchan warned of punitive measures if necessary.
Trump, utilizing Truth Social, expressed outrage, claiming the judge had infringed on his constitutional right to free speech, labeling the trial as rigged and accusing Merchan of interference in the 2024 presidential election. He continued his criticism, denouncing the trial as biased and a witch hunt, alleging Judge Merchan’s actions were aimed at pleasing his acquaintances.
“This is a total Witch Hunt. Hours of sitting down and listening to nothing except Exoneration and Lies,” Trump exclaimed. “The Trial is going like a speeding bullet because the Judge is working hard to make all of his friends happy. Merchan is Rigged, Crooked, and, above all, and without question, Conflicted.”
Following the day’s proceedings, Trump blamed President Joe Biden for his legal woes, calling the trial a disgrace to New York.
Trump faces charges related to falsifying business records, concealing hush money payments, and other allegations linked to the 2016 and 2020 elections, pleading not guilty to all counts. His fiery response underscores the contentious nature of his legal battles and the political dimensions surrounding them.
