Former President Donald Trump took to the stage in Michigan recently, making headlines for both his remarks about Vice President Kamala Harris and his unexpected comment about his own skin tone. During the rally, Trump claimed he has “beautiful white skin,” shortly after delivering a series of criticisms aimed at Harris, who is a key contender in the upcoming presidential race.
As the Republican nominee, Trump finds himself in a tight competition with Harris, who, if elected, would not only be the first woman to hold the presidency but also the first of Indian descent and the second Black president in U.S. history. His remarks about Harris have been controversial, as he has frequently called her “a low I.Q. individual” at various rallies. This follows a notorious incident from July when Trump questioned Harris’s racial identity while addressing a group of Black journalists. “I didn’t know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black,” he stated, igniting criticism for his insensitive remarks.
While speaking in Warren, Michigan, Trump criticized Harris’s policies, specifically her plans to tax companies. He argued that higher taxes would drive businesses away, claiming many corporations are run by individuals who prefer to live lavishly overseas. “You know what happens when you tax them? They leave,” Trump said. He reflected on his own life choices, expressing that the demands of his campaign have kept him from enjoying a more luxurious lifestyle.
“I could’ve been at the great Turnberry in Scotland. I could’ve been anywhere I wanted to be. I could’ve had those waves smacking me in the face,” he lamented, adding that his “beautiful white skin” could have benefitted from some sun exposure. “I got the whitest skin ’cause I never have time to go out in the sun. But I have that beautiful white, and you know what? It could’ve been beautiful, tanned, beautiful,” he declared.
Despite his humorous lamentations about missing out on sunbathing, Trump reassured his supporters that he remains committed to his mission to “make America great again,” even if he does so without a tan.
