On Monday, December 4, former President Donald Trump took to social media, specifically his Truth Social platform, to allege that the Lincoln Project, a political action committee critical of Trump, is using artificial intelligence (AI) to manipulate negative footage of him in their attack ads. Trump stated, “The perverts and losers at the failed and once disbanded Lincoln Project, and others, are using A.I. (Artificial Intelligence) in their Fake television commercials in order to make me look as bad and pathetic as Crooked Joe Biden, not an easy thing to do.”
He further criticized Fox News and other major news outlets, suggesting they should not air these ads, and claimed that they are acting as “in-kind campaign contributors to the Dems.”
There is no evidence to support Trump’s claim of AI manipulation. It appears to be an attempt to discredit anti-Trump attack ads aired by the Lincoln Project and other critics. The Lincoln Project is known for its sharp ads targeting Trump and his Republican allies.
A recent ad from the Lincoln Project characterizes Trump as “weak” and “feeble” for not standing up to the extreme elements within his party. Trump’s accusation of AI manipulation allows him to dismiss criticism without directly addressing the substance of the attacks. However, without proof, the claim remains unsubstantiated.
Trump has a history of accusing media outlets and opponents of unfair coverage and manipulation. This latest claim aligns with his pattern of alleging media bias and manipulation when faced with criticism.
