Former President Donald Trump addressed a crowd of supporters on Thursday, referring to individuals imprisoned for their involvement in the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot as “hostages.” Trump, who took the stage to Lee Greenwood’s patriotic anthem “God Bless the USA,” later played a song titled “Justice for All,” featuring a collaboration between him and inmates charged in connection with the riot.

ADVERTISTMENT

Opening the rally, Trump expressed his sentiments, stating, “I call them the ‘J-6 hostages,’ not prisoners. I call them the hostages, what’s happened. And you know, it’s a shame.”

The song “Justice for All,” released on various streaming platforms in March, features Trump reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, following a chorus performed by the “J6 Prison Choir,” inmates charged in relation to the January 6 insurrection. The track culminates with the choir passionately chanting “USA!” The proceeds from the song were reportedly directed to families of the Jan. 6 mob who participated in the recording.

Throughout his speech, Trump reiterated his sympathy for the rioters who clashed violently with law enforcement and stormed the Capitol complex in an attempt to halt the certification of President Biden’s 2020 victory. He expressed a willingness to consider pardoning some of those charged in connection to the attack and even participated in a fundraiser earlier this year organized for Jan. 6 defendants.

ADVERTISTMENT

It’s worth noting that Trump himself is facing federal charges in Washington, D.C., related to his attempts to remain in power after losing the 2020 election. Additionally, he is facing charges in Georgia over his efforts to overturn the state’s 2020 election results. The rally served as a platform for the former president to express his views on the Jan. 6 rioters, emphasizing his perspective on their legal situation.
