President Donald Trump has officially revoked former President Joe Biden’s access to classified information, citing concerns over Biden’s cognitive state and pointing to precedent set during Biden’s own presidency.
Trump made the stunning announcement on his social media platform shortly after arriving at his Mar-a-Lago estate for the weekend, sending shockwaves through the political sphere.
“There is no need for Joe Biden to continue receiving access to classified information,” Trump declared. “Therefore, we are immediately revoking Joe Biden’s Security Clearances, and stopping his daily Intelligence Briefings.”
Trump wasted no time reminding the public that Biden had done the same to him in 2021, cutting off Trump’s intelligence briefings and justifying it by questioning his “erratic” behavior. Now, with Biden under scrutiny for his faltering memory, Trump is flipping the script and shutting the door on his predecessor’s access to sensitive government intel.
But Biden isn’t the only one on Trump’s chopping block. The president has also revoked security clearances from more than 50 former intelligence officials who, in 2020, signed a controversial letter falsely claiming Hunter Biden’s laptop had all the hallmarks of a “Russian information operation.” The laptop’s authenticity was later confirmed, exposing what many now see as a coordinated attempt to interfere in the election.
In addition, Trump has pulled security details from former government figures, including ex-Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and retired COVID czar Anthony Fauci. Fauci, who was pardoned by Biden for any potential federal crimes tied to his involvement in funding COVID-19 research, now joins the list of high-profile figures stripped of protection.
Biden originally justified his decision to cut Trump off from intelligence briefings by suggesting the former president might recklessly disclose sensitive information. When asked in a CBS interview about the risks of keeping Trump in the loop, Biden hinted that he feared Trump might “slip and say something.”
Now, with Biden’s own cognitive struggles laid bare in Special Counsel Robert Hur’s damning report, Trump is taking a page out of his rival’s playbook. The report found Biden’s memory to be “hazy,” “faulty,” and “poor,” even concluding that he was unfit to stand trial due to his significant mental decline. Among the most shocking details, the report noted that Biden couldn’t recall major life events—including the year his son Beau died or when he served as vice president.
Trump made it clear that national security is his top priority, ending his post with a signature mic-drop moment: “I will always protect our National Security—JOE, YOU’RE FIRED. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
Steven Cheung, Trump’s communications director, drove the point home by sharing the president’s post on X, adding a blunt message of his own: “Hit the road Jack and don’t you come back no more!”
As the 2024 election battle heats up, Trump’s bold move against Biden is sure to escalate tensions—and keep America watching every move in this high-stakes political showdown.
