A new twist to the myriad controversies surrounding former President Donald Trump, former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown has hinted at possible legal action against Trump. This development comes on the heels of Trump’s recent claims about a helicopter ride with Brown, which the former mayor has firmly denied.
According to a report by the New York Times on August 17, 2024, Trump made a dramatic assertion during a press conference at Mar-a-Lago, alleging that he and Brown had once been involved in a dangerous helicopter incident requiring an emergency landing. Trump claimed, “I know Willie Brown very well. In fact, I went down in a helicopter with him. We thought maybe this was the end. There was an emergency landing.”
However, the New York Times has labeled Trump’s story as false. Brown, who has previously acknowledged a past relationship with Vice President Kamala Harris, has refuted Trump’s account, stating, “You know me well enough to know that if I almost went down in a helicopter with anybody, you would have heard about it.”
Brown’s denial of Trump’s narrative has sparked frustration, leading him to consider legal action. In an interview with CBS News, Brown expressed his irritation with Trump’s repeated falsehoods: “Somebody has got to make sure that he stops lying,” Brown said. “If he keeps it up, at some point, I’m going to give him a taste of his own conduct. If he sues the New York Times for printing that I said he lied, I’m going to sue him.”
This potential lawsuit adds another layer to the complex legal and political battles Trump faces as he campaigns for the 2024 presidential election. The former president’s controversies extend beyond policy disputes into personal conflicts, reflecting the polarized and contentious nature of American politics.
As Trump navigates these legal challenges and continues his campaign, the possibility of further entanglements looms large. Whether Brown will indeed proceed with a lawsuit remains to be seen, but this development highlights the ongoing turbulence surrounding Trump’s post-presidential years.
