Recent polling data has sparked significant debate about Donald Trump’s standing in the race for the presidency, especially regarding his competition with Vice President Kamala Harris in New Mexico. According to a “shock” poll shared by Richard Grennell, a prominent Trump surrogate and former acting director of national intelligence, Trump is purportedly gaining ground. This post quickly gained traction on X, claiming that Harris holds only a three-point lead over Trump in the battleground state. However, many experts have raised doubts about these figures.
Critics have pointed out that Grennell’s source-less data does not align with more reliable polling results. A recent poll published by the Albuquerque Journal shows Harris with a nine-point lead, three times greater than the figure Grennell reported. Democratic strategist and pollster Matt McDermott commented, “Trump surrogates are literally fabricating polls at this point to make their supporters think a victory is inevitable. No poll shows this in New Mexico.”
Adding to the controversy, Trump’s odds have seen a surprising shift on the betting platform Polymarket. Here, projections suggest Trump is leading with 63 percent of the expected vote, compared to Harris’s 36 percent. However, speculation has emerged that a single bettor, known as “Fredi9999,” is behind this sudden surge in pro-Trump bets, holding more than $20 million in stakes on the platform. Reports indicate that this individual may also control several accounts associated with significant bets favoring Trump.
