Former President and current Republican presidential nominee, Donald Trump, recently addressed a conservative Christian advocacy group, emphasizing his commitment to their mission and pledging a significant resurgence if he wins the 2024 presidential election.
During a pre-recorded video message at the Danbury Institute’s Life and Liberty Forum, Trump reassured attendees of his dedication to their values and objectives. He underscored the importance of their work during challenging times and urged them to stay active and engaged.
In his brief, two-minute message, Trump did not explicitly mention abortion but promised to protect “innocent life” if he returns to office. “These are difficult times for our nation, and your work is so important. We can’t afford to have anyone sit on the sidelines,” Trump, the presumptive GOP nominee, stated.
Trump criticized the Democratic Party, claiming they are “against religion,” despite President Joe Biden’s frequent discussions about his Catholic faith. “We have to defend religious liberty, free speech, innocent life, and the heritage and tradition that built America into the greatest nation in the history of the world. But now we are, as you know, a declining nation,” he asserted.
He encouraged the group, expressing confidence in their efforts to uphold these values. “I know that each of you is protecting those values every day, and I hope we’ll be defending them side by side for your next four years. These are going to be your years because you’re going to make a comeback like just about no other group,” Trump remarked.
Trump’s virtual presence at the forum was significant given the Danbury Institute’s strong positions on issues like abortion and marriage. The organization describes itself as “committed to truth and virtue in a world that validates absurdity as normal and ridicules what 10 years ago was taken for granted.” Its website equates abortion to “child sacrifice on the altar of self” and asserts that marriage is “a unique union between one man and one woman for life, and sexual intimacy is to be expressed only within this marital relationship.”

Throughout his campaign, Trump has highlighted his appointment of three conservative Supreme Court justices as pivotal in overturning Roe v. Wade. However, he has not taken a definitive stance on a federal abortion limit, suggesting that individual states should decide through legislation or referenda.
Trump has emphasized the need for strategic messaging on abortion to ensure electoral success. “You must follow your heart on this issue, but remember, you must also win elections to restore our culture and in fact to have our country, which is currently and very sadly a nation in decline,” he stated in an April video on abortion. “Our nation needs help. It needs unity, it needs all of us to work closely together.”
Democrats have linked Trump to restrictive abortion laws enacted in states like Texas and Florida, spotlighting stories of women unable to access necessary healthcare. The Biden campaign has sought to draw a stark contrast between Trump’s record and the administration’s efforts to safeguard abortion access.
“If you want to know who Trump will fight for in a second term, look at who he’s spending his time speaking to: anti-abortion extremists who call abortion ‘child sacrifice’ and want to ‘eradicate’ abortion ‘entirely,’” said Biden campaign spokesperson Sarafina Chitika in response to Trump’s remarks.
“A second Trump term is sure to bring more extreme abortion bans with no exceptions, women punished for seeking the care they need, and doctors criminalized for providing care,” Chitika added. “Women can and will stop him by reelecting President Biden and Vice President Harris this November.”
