Shaun Maguire, a notable partner at Sequoia Capital, one of the largest venture capital firms in the country, announced a donation of $300,000 to Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign. The Post Millennial reported that Maguire stated on social media, “The timing isn’t a coincidence.”
This donation marks a dramatic shift in Maguire’s political stance. In 2016, as a former Google Ventures partner, he was a vocal supporter of Hillary Clinton, expressing deep concerns about Trump. By 2020, disillusioned with both candidates, he abstained from voting. However, for the 2024 election, Maguire sees it as “one of the most important of my lifetime,” and his donation underscores his confidence in Trump’s leadership.
Maguire acknowledges the potential backlash, including possible loss of friendships and business opportunities, but stands firm in his decision. “I refuse to live in a society where people are afraid to speak,” he declared.
His support for Trump is rooted in his disillusionment with the Biden administration, particularly regarding foreign policy.
