Donald Trump’s latest announcement has sparked intense reactions, with MSNBC analyst Chris Matthews leading the charge in expressing his outrage. The former “Hardball” host couldn’t hide his disbelief when discussing Trump’s surprising proposal for the U.S. to take control of the Gaza Strip. The idea? Redevelop the region, home to over 2 million Palestinians, into a resort.
Appearing on “Morning Joe,” Matthews wasted no time in dismissing the plan as “crazy” — a word he repeatedly emphasized. Speaking to co-host Mika Brzezinski, Matthews compared the idea to Trump’s past failure in Atlantic City, suggesting that the Middle East isn’t the place to replicate his old casino ventures.
“Two million people living in Gaza, and now we’re going to own it?” Matthews questioned. “We’re supposed to somehow convince these people to move to Jordan or Egypt? Neither country wants them!”
He also criticized the notion of turning Gaza into an “Atlantic City” model, referencing Trump’s past ventures, which struggled and ultimately failed. “Go visit Atlantic City or Trump Tower — take a look at the mess left behind,” he said. “That was Trump’s idea of a new Riviera, but it didn’t work. So now he wants to transform Gaza into a ‘mecca’ for Hamas to serve as waiters and chambermaids. Are you crazy?”
Matthews didn’t hold back, calling it “the craziest thing he has ever said,” and continuing to question the viability of such a proposal in the already volatile region.
