Former Republican congressional candidate, Jason Nelson, found himself at the center of a social media storm when he blamed President Biden for the high cost of his $313 17-pound beef ribeye roast. In a post tagging White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, Nelson vented his frustration with what he called Bidenomics.
However, the online community wasn’t buying it. One commenter questioned the logic, asking if the complaint was that the president’s policies made steak too expensive, implying that it shouldn’t be a deciding factor in voting. Nelson fired back, insisting the point was misunderstood.
A verified user, Steve Svekis, shared a more practical perspective, mentioning a recent purchase of beef at $6.99 per pound. Nelson, however, dismissed the suggestion, calling it literally stupid.
The harshest criticism came from journalist James Surowiecki, who pointed out the irony of Nelson’s complaint. He noted that not only did Nelson buy a substantial amount of prime rib, but the price of beef ribeye roast had only increased by 2% per year over the past five years, challenging the notion that it was solely due to recent economic policies.
In the end, Nelson’s beef-related grievance became a talking point on social media, showcasing the intersection of politics, economics, and, unexpectedly, dinner choices.
