On Christmas Day, two Republican lawmakers found themselves targeted in swatting incidents, as reported on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Rep. Brandon Williams, R-N.Y., became the initial focus of a swatting call on Monday. Taking to X, he shared his experience, stating, “Our home was swatted this afternoon. Thanks to the Deputies and Troopers who contacted me before arriving. They left with homemade cookies and spiced nuts! Merry Christmas everyone!”
In response to the incident, Williams revealed that Capitol Police and local law enforcement are actively investigating the matter. He expressed gratitude for the swift and professional response, noting, “Thankful for law enforcement working today (and every day). 5 cars responded to our home. The deputies and troopers were polite, professional, and prompt. God bless them.”
Swatting involves making a false report of a crime in progress to lure law enforcement to a specific location.
Shortly thereafter, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., disclosed that she, too, fell victim to a swatting incident on the same day. In an X post, she shared, “I was just swatted. This is like the 8th time. On Christmas with my family here.”
A spokesperson for the Rome Police Department in Georgia confirmed that they received an emergency call to Greene’s address before 11 a.m. on Monday. Fortunately, coordination with her security detail determined that there was no actual emergency, and the response was canceled on route.
While acknowledging that this wasn’t the first time they were dispatched to Greene’s home, the spokesperson highlighted a positive relationship with her security detail. Greene, a repeated target of swatting, expressed appreciation for her local police, stating, “My local police are the GREATEST and shouldn’t have to deal with this. I appreciate them so much, and my family and I are in joyous spirits celebrating the birth of our savior Jesus Christ.
