Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco has issued a stark warning, revealing that attacks by Trump and Republicans on the Justice Department are fueling an unprecedented rise in violent threats against the agency.
Former federal prosecutor Joyce Vance, speaking on MSNBC, expressed deep concern about the escalation of danger attributed to the MAGA movement. Anchor Alicia Menendez remarked on the alarming nature of Vance’s statement.
Joyce, that is an alarming proposition, said Menendez.
It really is, agreed Vance. The deputy attorney general is someone who has served in various DOJ positions, from line prosecutor to running the national security division. To see her feel the need to give an interview and discuss threats to prosecutors is really alarming. It’s a red flag about the position Donald Trump has placed the country in.
Vance emphasized that Trump’s rhetoric, accepted by some, undermines the integrity of the DOJ and erodes public confidence. She noted that if Trump and others in his party had defended democratic institutions, the situation might be different.
Now we’ve got a deputy attorney general who’s forced to reveal in the course of an interview that not one but three presidential candidates were the subject of serious threats, Vance added. There are now so many FBI agents and their families who have been threatened that there’s a whole unit at the bureau committed to investigating those claims. This is a diversion of our resources from where they should be, and again, it lies at the feet of the former president. People in law enforcement are used to threats in the course of their work. What they’re not used to is those threats coming from inside the house.
