Former President Donald Trump’s legal team has petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court to refrain from intervening in a case brought by the Justice Department, alleging Trump’s involvement in the 2020 election fraud.
The lawsuit accuses Trump and associates of conspiring to undermine election results through false claims, pressuring officials, and inciting the Capitol riot on January 6, 2023. Trump argues immunity from prosecution for his official acts and claims the case is politically motivated. His legal team urges the Supreme Court not to intervene at this stage, allowing the appeals process to proceed. The case’s trial date is set for March 5, 2024.
