During a press conference on Monday, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) found herself cut off by Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) while discussing the recent indictment of Hunter Biden. The incident unfolded as Jordan and Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) delved into the details of the charges against the son of President Joe Biden.
Last week, Hunter Biden faced a nine-count indictment in California, accusing him of evading at least $1.4 million in federal income taxes between 2016 and 2019. The charges also alleged that he filed false returns to elude a 2018 assessment. This legal entanglement followed a previous indictment on federal gun charges in Delaware in September.
The press conference occurred in the aftermath of Hunter Biden’s own public statement, where he expressed a willingness to testify but refused to comply with a congressional subpoena for a closed-door deposition. The House Oversight and Reform Committee is investigating Hunter Biden’s foreign business dealings.
During the press conference, Jordan, the ranking member of the Judiciary Committee, and Comer, the ranking member of the Oversight Committee, criticized Hunter Biden for defying the subpoena. They accused him of involvement in a “corrupt scheme” that purportedly benefited his father and compromised national security. The duo also defended the special counsel, David Weiss, appointed by former President Trump, who is leading the criminal probe into Hunter Biden.
Unexpectedly, Rep. Greene, not a member of either committee, attempted to address reporters, only to be abruptly cut off by Jordan, who promptly concluded the event. Reports by Newsweek on December 14, 2023, suggested that footage of the incident, widely shared on social media, captured Greene posing a question: “Why are you so afraid of asking Joe Biden questions?”
Jordan intervened, saying, “Hey, hey, hey, guys, we’re going to wrap it up,” before expressing gratitude to reporters and exiting the scene, accompanied by Comer and Greene.
Marjorie Taylor Greene, known for her controversial views and fervent support of former President Donald Trump, has previously clashed with Jordan, accusing him of being part of the “swamp.” Despite this, she later commended him for his role in debt deal negotiations.
Republicans have expressed frustration over Greene’s involvement in the Hunter Biden investigation, stating that her actions undermine their efforts and credibility. Greene has not responded to requests for comment on the press conference incident but took to social media to express her pride in standing with Jordan and Comer, vowing to “never stop asking questions and demanding answers” about the Bidens.
