Former President Donald Trump encountered a wave of criticism and ridicule during his recent rally in South Carolina, as reported by Raw Story on Saturday, November 25, 2023.
Activists from the group Leftist Vermin sponsored billboards along Trump’s motorcade route, displaying messages such as ‘You lost. You’re guilty. Welcome to Columbia, Donald.’
In a statement, Leftist Vermin, a coalition of anti-fascist, anti-racist, and anti-capitalist activists, aimed to remind Trump and his supporters that he is a failed president, a sore loser, and a perceived threat to democracy.
The group adopted the name Leftist Vermin in response to Trump’s recent speech in New Hampshire, where he referred to his political opponents as radical left thugs living like vermin in the country.
Prominent South Carolina attorney and Trump critic, Jay Bender, championed the message on the billboards.
Trump’s speech, criticized by Democrats and historians as fascist and reminiscent of Nazi rhetoric, prompted protests outside the venue in Claremont. Protesters held signs reading No more lies and Trump is the real vermin, chanting Lock him up and Shame on you.
Ignoring the billboards and protesters, Trump addressed thousands of loyal fans inside the arena, repeating false allegations of a rigged and stolen election. He criticized Biden’s policies on immigration, taxes, energy, and foreign affairs, targeting potential 2024 Republican primary rivals like Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley.
Claiming to be the only one who can make America great again, Trump’s rally in South Carolina marked his second campaign-style event in a week. Despite his efforts to maintain control over the Republican Party and position himself as the presumptive nominee for 2024, Trump faces legal challenges, including criminal investigations in New York and Georgia and over 90 felony charges related to his role in the January 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.
