A recent report by Newsweek on December 23, 2023, a Republican organization has thrown some shade at former President Donald Trump through a bold advertisement. The ‘Dictator Donald’ ad, created by the Republican Accountability PAC, points out similarities between Trump and historical dictators, such as Mussolini, Chávez, and Pinochet.

The ad focuses on Trump’s earlier claim that he would lead like a dictator from day one of a new administration. It brings attention to a Truth Social post from December 2022 where Trump suggested the termination of specific Constitution articles.

In the ad, the narrator draws parallels between Trump’s intentions and the actions of past dictators who suspended their Constitutions to consolidate power. The ad further alleges that if Trump were to be re-elected in 2024, he plans to replace tens of thousands of civil servants with individuals loyal to him, a tactic reminiscent of authoritarian leader Viktor Orbán’s strategies in Hungary.

The narrator warns viewers about the choice between protecting democracy and allowing Trump to jeopardize it. The controversial advertisement, with a campaign expenditure of $200,000, is set to air nationally on MSNBC and CNN from December 26-29, on the Hallmark Channel from December 22-28, and during TBS’ A Christmas Story marathon on Christmas day.

Announced on X (formerly Twitter), the group revealed that the ad would specifically target voters in crucial swing states for the 2024 election, namely Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

The Republican Accountability PAC, tracing its origins back to the Capitol insurrection on January 6th, claims that the attack was fueled by Trump’s false allegations of election theft. The PAC, having released three previous ads with six-figure budgets since August, denies any intentions of endorsing candidates within the GOP field, according to spokesperson Kase Cronin.
