Fire Destroys Pool House Building at Randolph Park in Pulaski County

PULASKI COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) – A devastating fire engulfed a pool house building at Randolph Park on Friday, leaving it completely destroyed, according to Pulaski County officials. Fortunately, the Parks and Recreation staff managed to evacuate the Evelyn Alexander Waterpark facilities safely when the fire broke out in the afternoon. Firefighters worked tirelessly for approximately two hours before finally extinguishing the flames. Unfortunately, none of the building could be salvaged, prompting an ongoing investigation to determine the cause of the fire.

Expressing her shock and gratitude, Shay Dunnigan, the Parks and Activities Director, stated, “Our Pulaski County Family witnessed an unforeseen event this evening. We are immensely grateful for the swift response and bravery displayed by our first responders, both from our community and neighboring areas. We are truly blessed to have you as our friends and neighbors.”

Despite the extensive damage caused by the fire, Dunnigan affirmed, “Nothing can shatter the spirit and pride of Pulaski County.” Immediate plans are already underway to establish interim public accommodations.

Dunnigan emphasized the significance of Parks and Recreation, stating, “We have thousands of individuals who rely on Parks and Recreation, and we hold that responsibility with utmost seriousness.”

The Parks and Recreation department is diligently working on devising a plan for the upcoming summer programs and activities in light of this unfortunate incident.

The Pulaski Fire Department responded promptly to the fire, receiving the distress call at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported in connection with the incident.
