Poignant last photo captures a new father, George Fenlon, 23, meeting his newborn daughter, Clara Georgia, just weeks before his life support was turned off. George succumbed to his injuries three months after a brutal attack in Blackpool, Lancashire.

George’s partner, Beth Turner, 23, was heavily pregnant at the time of the assault and gave birth to their daughter just two weeks before George’s passing. Although George never regained consciousness, he met his daughter in the hospital, a moment tenderly photographed by his grieving mother, Melissa.

Reflecting on the ordeal, Melissa, 53, expressed the emotional turmoil the family endured: “Looking back now, I’m not sure how we all got through it. The range of emotions was horrendous. Beth wanted Clara to meet George and spend some time with him. We have precious memories and pictures, and the hospital gave us little prints of Clara’s and George’s hands together.”

On August 15 of the previous year, police were alerted to an assault at The Strand in Blackpool around 2 am. George, a bartender at Revolution Bar, had sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to Royal Preston Hospital. Despite the medical team’s efforts, he died on November 22 due to complications from blunt head trauma.

Rhys Jones, 26, of Cannock, Staffs, has been charged with George’s murder and is set to stand trial in June. Melissa recalled the shock of the incident: “It was one of his friends who called. We didn’t know what was happening. When we found out he had a serious head injury, we rushed to Preston, where he was receiving the best care.”

Melissa now channels her grief into creating a lasting legacy for her “fun-loving” son. She has organized a fundraising event in July, ‘The Fenlon Football Funday,’ at Stanley Park in Blackpool. The event features a football tournament and children’s entertainment, reflecting George’s love for football and his joyous spirit.

“George just wanted to make people laugh. He was easygoing and nothing really fazed him,” Melissa reminisced. “Clara’s favorite TV show is Teletubbies, and George was like a big Teletubby, always playful. It’s heartbreaking that Clara will never experience that side of him. The fun day is for Clara and all of George’s friends, to keep his memory alive.”

Revolution Bar, where George worked, will continue the celebration in the evening with a cocktail named in his honor. Proceeds will go to Elliot’s Place, a local charity supporting young men with mental health issues. Melissa noted, “George’s friends have struggled with his loss, so supporting this charity made perfect sense.”

This heartbreaking story of love, loss, and remembrance serves as a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the enduring power of memory.
