Donald Trump, the 78-year-old Republican presidential candidate, took aim at former President Barack Obama, 63, during a rally in Greenville, North Carolina, claiming that Obama looks “exhausted” and “older.” The remark came shortly after Trump canceled multiple campaign events, sparking concerns about his own stamina and mental sharpness.
During the rally, Trump pointed to Obama’s recent appearance at a Detroit rally alongside rapper Eminem in support of Kamala Harris, commenting, “I think the guy’s exhausted. And I never say someone looks old, but he’s looking a little older, isn’t he?” The former president seemed eager to shift attention to his opponents amid growing questions about his energy on the campaign trail.
While Trump criticized Obama, he has also backed out of a number of scheduled events in recent days. He canceled a virtual town hall with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard, citing “schedule changes.” His team also rescheduled interviews with CNBC and podcasts, leading to speculation about his physical and mental readiness to continue his campaign against Harris.
Despite these cancellations, Trump’s team has denied any issues, with spokesperson Karoline Leavitt claiming that Trump is far from exhausted, stating, “President Trump is running laps around Kamala Harris.” His supporters have repeatedly dismissed concerns about his health, though many political observers note the sharp increase in rescheduled appearances.
As Trump continues to face scrutiny over his cognitive state, he has responded by calling for Kamala Harris to take a cognitive test, asserting that he had “aced” two such tests in the past. However, experts and critics remain skeptical, citing his increasingly erratic behavior and public statements as signs of cognitive decline.
If successful in the upcoming election, Trump would become the oldest elected president in U.S. history, a milestone that has reignited debates about the age and health of presidential candidates.
