A recent Fox News segment featuring Donald Trump’s surprise visit to a Bronx barbershop has sparked controversy due to its striking resemblance to a campaign advertisement. During this visit, Trump interacted with Black and Hispanic patrons, many of whom sported “Make Barbers Great Again” shirts, as part of a series hosted by “Fox & Friends” co-host Lawrence Jones.

The aired version of Trump’s visit, however, underwent significant editing, omitting his often meandering comments and misleading claims. According to CNN, a longer video of the barbershop visit shared on Instagram reveals considerable discrepancies between the unedited footage and the version broadcast on “Fox & Friends.” This editing effort resulted in a streamlined presentation that obscured Trump’s frequent digressions and falsehoods.

The edits notably removed many of Trump’s exaggerations, which is particularly ironic given his recent criticism of CBS for editing an interview with Vice President Kamala Harris. Trump accused CBS of manipulating the interview to portray Harris more favorably and demanded the unedited transcript—a claim that Fox News readily amplified. Ironically, the editing of Trump’s barbershop visit served as a masterclass in image management, conveniently slicing out questionable remarks that could undermine his narrative.

For example, Trump claimed that “they just dumped 50,000 people—32,000 migrants from another country” in Springfield, Ohio. However, local data shows that the actual number of migrants is significantly lower. The broadcast also excluded Trump’s inflated assertions regarding crime rates in Aurora, Colorado.

A particularly telling moment arose when an audience member asked Trump about eliminating federal taxes. In the edited segment, it appeared Trump answered immediately. In reality, his response came only after a lengthy diversion, during which the audience member had to repeatedly steer the conversation back to the original question.

Fox also cut out some of Trump’s more controversial remarks, including his derogatory comments about the Wall Street Journal, where he advised the audience to “not listen” to the “Wall Street jerks.” Furthermore, Trump’s praise for Hungarian leader Viktor Orban, reflecting his inclination to align with authoritarian figures, was also left on the cutting room floor.

A Fox News spokesperson clarified that all of Jones’ barbershop segments are pre-taped and edited for time and clarity. The network explained that the Bronx segment lasted nearly an hour, and the edits were made to fit the broadcast.

Trump’s recent appearance on “MediaBuzz” showcased similar editing practices, particularly when he began repeating false claims about the 2020 election. The abrupt cut during his comments regarding January 6 indicated that Fox is still navigating the consequences of defamation lawsuits stemming from its 2020 coverage.
