High-stakes campaign appearance in North Carolina, Vice President Kamala Harris sharply criticized former President Donald Trump and his vice-presidential pick, Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), underscoring the gravity of the upcoming presidential election. Harris’s remarks came as part of a broader Democratic effort to secure pivotal swing states, with North Carolina being a key battleground.
Harris emphasized the critical nature of the 2024 election, declaring it the most consequential of our lifetime. “110 days out from the election and while many of us have been involved in these elections for every four years, practically, nearly every time we will say ‘this is the one.’ Well, this here is the one,” she stated, highlighting the election’s importance as reported by The Hill.
The Vice President’s comments followed a rousing speech by Vance, who recently accepted his nomination as Trump’s running mate. While acknowledging Vance’s compelling personal story, Harris criticized him for not addressing the controversial Project 2025, a detailed blueprint for Trump’s second term developed by the conservative Heritage Foundation.
“Frankly, what is very telling is what he did not talk about on that stage. He did not talk about Project 2025, their 900-page blueprint for a second Trump term. He did not talk about it because their plans are extreme and they are divisive,” Harris added.
The Biden-Harris campaign is intensifying its efforts in North Carolina, a state Trump won in 2020. This push has become more urgent with President Joe Biden’s recent COVID-19 diagnosis, which has complicated his campaign activities and increased scrutiny on his candidacy.
Harris, a key figure in the campaign, has consistently supported Biden and addressed concerns about his health and potential impact on the election. Governor Roy Cooper (D), a prominent North Carolina Democrat, introduced Harris at the event, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to continuing its work.
Harris also took aim at the Republican Party, criticizing their claimed commitment to unity as a facade. “You cannot claim you stand for unity if you are pushing an agenda that deprives whole groups of Americans of basic freedoms, opportunity, and dignity,” she asserted.
The Vice President accused Trump of using Vance as a distraction to divert attention from his record and Project 2025. “With the selection of his running mate this week, Donald Trump is trying to distract people. He wants to direct attention away from his record and his Project 2025 plan to suggest that he and his running mate are going to prioritize the middle class,” Harris argued.
Harris warned of the dire consequences of a Trump victory, stressing the potential negative impact on working families, reproductive rights, and democratic institutions. “If Donald Trump were to win in November, he will continue to sell out working families, he will continue to attack reproductive freedom, and he will continue to undermine our democracy,” she concluded.
As the election approaches, the Biden-Harris campaign is focusing on securing votes in crucial battleground states like North Carolina, with Harris’s recent visit underscoring their determination to address the high stakes of this election.
The upcoming weeks will see heightened campaign activity, with Trump set to deliver a major address following an assassination attempt, contrasting sharply with Biden’s campaign challenges amid his illness. The 2024 election remains a fiercely contested race, with both parties intensifying their efforts to sway voters in key states.
