Currently celebrating the New Year on St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands, President Biden is facing growing criticism as the border situation continues to worsen. According to a recent report by Fox News on Saturday, December 30, border towns and sanctuary cities, notably New York City, are struggling with strained infrastructures unable to cope with the surge of migrants.

Disturbingly, December has marked a historic high with over 276,000 migrant encounters, exacerbating the challenges faced by authorities dealing with this crisis.

Republicans, spearheaded by figures such as Rep. Gary Palmer of Alabama and Rep. Randy Weber of Texas, are vehemently condemning what they perceive as deliberate inaction on President Biden’s part. Palmer contends that the surge is intentional, accusing the President of lacking the desire to address the crisis. Weber emphasizes the urgency, stating that the future of America hangs in the balance, urging the administration to enforce existing laws and stem the tide of illegal immigrants.

Rep. Mark Alford of Missouri expressed his disappointment, asserting that Biden and his officials should be ashamed of the state of the U.S. migrant crisis. Alford highlights the record-breaking encounters at the southern border each month, emphasizing that the President is taking time off instead of pursuing solutions.

Texan Republicans, including Rep. August Pfluger, underscore the severity of the situation, with Texas experiencing unprecedented levels of illegal crossings. Pfluger criticizes the White House and Senate Democrats for their perceived inaction, highlighting the plight of Texans amidst the border crisis.

The statistics paint a grim picture, with over 760,000 migrant encounters at the southern border since October, marking the first quarter of fiscal 2024 as the highest on record. Simultaneously, 82,000 known getaways have further strained the resources of Border Patrol, which consistently finds itself overwhelmed.

Republicans attribute the surge to the administration’s policies, particularly the reversal of Trump-era measures. In contrast, the administration contends that it faces a broader challenge requiring increased funding and immigration reform legislation from Congress.

As the southern border crisis deepens, the vacationing President faces growing criticism for what his opponents perceive as a failure to address one of the nation’s most pressing issues today. The political debate over responsibility and solutions will likely intensify in the coming days.
