Holland Taylor and Sarah Paulson have been in a relationship since 2015, captivating fans with their deep connection and mutual admiration. Despite their nearly decade-long romance, the couple has no plans to marry, as revealed by Taylor during her recent appearance on SiriusXM’s “Andy Cohen Live.”
Marriage Not on the Horizon
In the candid interview, Holland Taylor discussed the “wonderful resonance” between herself and Paulson but clarified that marriage is not something they have ever seriously considered. “We’ve never talked about it with any interest,” Taylor shared. “It doesn’t seem to mean to us what it means to a lot of people.” This sentiment highlights the couple’s contentment with their relationship as it stands.
Taylor also addressed the significant 32-year age gap between the two, reflecting on how their different life stages bring unique perspectives to their relationship. “A lot of things that she’s going through that are very emotional and important to her right now I went through, you know, 40 years ago, 30 years ago,” Taylor explained. “And she brings them up in my memory, and I think, ‘Of course this is hard,’ or ‘Of course that’s great.’”
A Relationship Built on Deep Connection
Holland Taylor and Sarah Paulson went public with their relationship in 2015, shortly after both actresses openly discussed their sexuality. In a March 2016 interview with The New York Times, Paulson described her initial reaction to Taylor as seeing “the most exquisitely beautiful woman I’d ever seen.” Paulson, who has historically gravitated towards older partners, has expressed that being with someone older brings a deeper appreciation for time and the significance of their moments together.
Before Taylor, Paulson was involved with actor Cherry Jones, who is 18 years her senior, and was previously engaged to actor-playwright Tracy Letts in the 1990s.
Shared Passions and Mutual Admiration
Their deep admiration for each other was further expressed in Paulson’s appearance on Chelsea Handler’s “Dear Chelsea” podcast, where she praised Taylor as the “smartest, wisest, funniest, most extraordinary person I’ve ever met.” Paulson emphasized her commitment to Taylor, saying, “I can’t imagine not being with her. I just can’t.”
Similarly, Taylor acknowledged the strong bond they share, noting that while they have many common interests, they also appreciate each other’s differences. Both are passionate about theater; Taylor is currently starring as a character inspired by House Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi in the Broadway production of “N/A,” and was previously nominated for a Tony Award for her role in “Ann.” Meanwhile, Paulson won a Tony Award in June for her performance in “Appropriate.”
The couple’s continued success and mutual respect showcase the strength of their relationship, proving that marriage is not the only measure of a meaningful partnership.
