Former federal prosecutor and current MSNBC legal analyst Glenn Kirschner recently spoke with SiriusXM radio host Dean Obeidallah. During the interview, Kirschner suggested that Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) might be considered “an accessory after the fact” to former President Donald Trump’s alleged crimes. He expressed hope that Special Counsel Jack Smith would conduct a comprehensive investigation into Jordan and other GOP lawmakers.
The political world was surprised when Speaker of the House Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) was voted out as Speaker and subsequently announced that he would not seek re-election for the position. This development has put Rep. Jim Jordan and Rep. Steve Scalise at the forefront as leading contenders to replace him.
On a recent episode of The Dean Obeidallah Show, Kirschner discussed Jordan’s potential involvement in events related to January 6th and accused him and other GOP members of potentially committing crimes. He also suggested that Jordan may have played a role in covering up these actions:
DEAN OBEIDALLAH: Lastly, considering the evidence presented in the January 6th report, much of which was based on sworn testimony, is there a credible argument that Jim Jordan could be seen as a co-defendant in Donald Trump’s actions related to January 6th?
GLENN KIRSCHNER: Absolutely, there is a legitimate basis for such an argument. The definitive determination of whether there is enough evidence to charge him rests with Jack Smith and his investigative team. It is highly likely that they have been examining the conduct of congressional figures in relation to the events of January 6th. It’s worth noting that six of them, including some no longer in Congress, sought pardons, indicating their awareness of potential crimes connected to January 6th.
Jack Smith cannot overlook these developments. Jim Jordan has also faced allegations of attempting to shield Donald Trump from accountability for alleged crimes. In essence, he has been portrayed as aiding and abetting after the fact by establishing a committee that some view as obstructing the investigation into government misconduct. There may be several potential legal questions surrounding Jim Jordan’s actions, and I am optimistic that Jack Smith will conduct a thorough investigation into these matters.
This interview underscores the ongoing scrutiny of the events of January 6th and raises questions about the roles played by lawmakers like Jim Jordan in relation to those events.
