GOP mega-donor and former Trump supporter, Ken Langone, delivered a significant blow to the former president’s post-election actions while endorsing Nikki Haley’s presidential bid during a recent appearance on Fox News with Neil Cavuto, as reported by Mediaite.
Langone, the billionaire co-founder of Home Depot, expressed his endorsement for Haley, citing her as the optimal choice for the Republican Party. During the interview, Langone emphasized the need for a leader with a “statesman-like” and “elegant” approach, asserting that the American people require this kind of leadership.
“I think she’s just what we need right now. I think her approach is smart. I think she’s clarified herself on some issues which is very important. And more importantly, I think the American people need this kind of leadership, statesman-like, elegant,” Langone conveyed.
Responding to Cavuto’s inquiry about his preference over Ron DeSantis, another prominent Republican figure, Langone highlighted Haley’s surging popularity among voters. He noted that DeSantis’s numbers were not moving, indicating that Haley is gaining traction within the Republican base.
Langone, known for his past support of Donald Trump, justified his choice by critiquing Trump’s final months in office. Despite Trump’s consistent lead over Joe Biden in polls, Langone stated, “Look, I think his time has come and gone. Unfortunately, the last three months of his presidency certainly did not speak well of him, not in my mind anyway.”
The billionaire donor expressed disappointment with Trump’s actions after the 2020 election, particularly focusing on the events of January 6th. Langone criticized Trump’s response to the Capitol riot, stating, “He sat in a room and watched it for three hours, did nothing about it. So America is better than that. America deserves and America deserves better than that, Neil.”
Langone’s endorsement of Nikki Haley underscores a shifting landscape of Republican support, signaling a growing dissatisfaction with former President Trump among influential figures within the party. As the 2024 presidential race unfolds, Langone’s critique and endorsement are poised to shape the trajectory of the GOP and its candidates.
