Megan Thee Stallion has filed a lawsuit against commentator Milagro Cooper, also known as Milagro Gramz, accusing her of spreading false and harassing content during and after the trial of Tory Lanez. This high-profile case stems from the 2022 incident in which Lanez shot Megan Thee Stallion in the foot. Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, was found guilty and sentenced to 10 years in prison.
In the lawsuit filed in the Southern District of Florida, Megan Thee Stallion’s attorneys claim that Cooper acted as a “mouthpiece” and “paid surrogate” for Lanez, attempting to discredit the rapper. They argue that Cooper’s actions aimed to “denigrate, belittle, insult, and spread false statements” about Megan Thee Stallion, also known as Megan Pete. This alleged behavior reportedly caused emotional distress to the Grammy-winning artist.
Cooper is accused of sharing misinformation regarding the trial, including false claims that Pete had not been shot and that she struggled with alcohol addiction. Furthermore, she allegedly encouraged her followers on social media platforms like X and Instagram to view a sexually explicit deepfake video of Pete that had circulated online. Although the lawsuit does not state that Cooper created or directly posted the video, it claims she “willfully and maliciously promoted” it to her audience.
In a statement, Megan Thee Stallion expressed her frustration with the relentless attacks on her character, attributing them to social media bloggers misrepresenting themselves as journalists. “It’s unacceptable behavior, and these individuals need to understand there will be repercussions for recklessly posting lies and defamatory falsehoods,” she stated.
Megan Thee Stallion’s lawsuit includes several serious allegations against Cooper, including promotion of an altered sexual depiction, cyberstalking, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and false light invasion of privacy. Under Florida law, if Cooper is found liable for promoting the altered sexual depiction, Megan Thee Stallion is entitled to either $10,000 or actual damages incurred. She is also seeking an injunction to prevent Cooper from engaging in further cyberstalking, alongside unspecified damages for emotional distress and false light.
As of now, Cooper has not responded to requests for comment regarding the lawsuit. However, she did acknowledge the suit in a post on X, indicating that she was “informed” about it and implying a countersuit might be forthcoming.
This legal battle is not unprecedented, as other celebrities, including Cardi B, have successfully sued commentators for defamation. Cardi B was awarded $4 million after a jury found that YouTuber Tasha K had defamed her in 2022.
