Omarosa Manigault Newman, once a high-profile figure within Donald Trump’s administration and his famous Apprentice series, has publicly endorsed Kamala Harris for the 2024 presidential election. In an exclusive interview, Manigault Newman, who rose to fame through her work with Trump and later became a vocal critic, shared her views on the upcoming election and her strong support for Harris, citing Trump’s previous defeat and his deteriorating leadership abilities.
A Shift in Loyalty
Omarosa’s political journey has spanned both Democratic and Republican administrations. She initially worked with the Clinton administration and later held a prominent role in Trump’s White House as the director of communications for the Office of Public Liaison. However, her relationship with Trump soured after her 2018 memoir Unhinged, in which she accused the former president of racism and cognitive decline. Her claims were followed by a lengthy lawsuit that ended in her favor in 2022.
Reflecting on Trump’s performance since 2016, Omarosa noted, “Anyone observing Donald Trump can see he has limited vocabulary and often rambles.” She also emphasized that his most ardent supporters are not immune to breaking away, pointing to his previous defeat by President Joe Biden. She believes that a potential loss to Kamala Harris, a woman of color, would deal a significant blow to Trump’s ego.
Trump’s Attacks on Kamala Harris
Manigault Newman criticized Trump for questioning Harris’ racial identity, calling it “beyond the pale.” She referenced Trump’s past dishonesty about his own lineage, pointing out how he had fabricated stories about his heritage. Omarosa’s endorsement of Harris appears rooted in her belief that Harris represents the future of American politics, and she expressed her hope that Harris would usher in a new generation of leaders, especially women.
Fearless in the Face of Trump
Having battled Trump in court, Omarosa says she’s no longer intimidated by him. “We’ve defeated him in court before. We would do it again,” she said confidently. She underscored her ability to stand up against Trump, even when he was the sitting president. Manigault Newman is prepared to fight back if Trump seeks revenge on those who oppose him, but she no longer fears his influence.
A Call for Fresh Leadership
In addition to endorsing Harris, Omarosa reflected on her own political career and expressed a desire for fresh leadership in Washington. “Politics is a young woman’s game,” she stated, noting her hopes that Harris will bring new energy to American politics and open the door for young women to serve in government.
