A recent report by Inquisitr on November 16, 2023, Chris Christie, former New Jersey governor and Republican presidential hopeful, launched a bold critique against his main rival, ex-President Donald Trump, who is currently facing multiple criminal charges.
Speaking on CNN, Christie expressed concern about Trump’s ability to run for the highest office, even in the face of serious criminal convictions, suggesting that such a scenario would appall the founding fathers of the United States.
Notably, Christie criticized two other potential contenders, Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis, for pledging support to Trump regardless of the outcome of his legal battles. Trump is currently accused of 91 felonies across four jurisdictions, ranging from election interference to tax fraud.
Despite being a close ally of Trump during his first term, Christie has distanced himself from the former president and his unfounded claims of voter fraud. In a conversation with CNN’s Jake Tapper, Christie expressed his willingness to challenge Trump and his loyalists, contrasting his stance with that of Haley and DeSantis, whom he accused of pandering to Trump’s supporters.
Christie deemed Haley and DeSantis’ unconditional support for Trump a disgraceful stance that would make the founding fathers, such as George Washington, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson, roll in their graves. He asserted that the founding fathers never envisioned a convicted felon becoming the president and that those supporting such a scenario are unfit to lead the nation.
Accusing Haley and DeSantis of poor judgment and engaging in craven politics by aligning with Trump, Christie emphasized his commitment not to settle for second place but to defeat Trump and restore the Republican Party’s integrity.
While refraining from endorsing either Haley or DeSantis for president, Christie expressed disappointment with Haley’s praise of Trump during the last debate, finding it very discouraging. He pledged to continue speaking the truth, standing up to Trump and his falsehoods, even if it meant losing some votes. According to Christie, the American people deserve better than a president with criminal charges and those who enable him.
