Firm declaration to congressional Democrats, President Joe Biden reiterated his resolve to remain the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee, dismissing speculation about his withdrawal from the race. In a letter released by his campaign on Monday, Biden addressed concerns raised by some lawmakers following a challenging debate performance against Donald Trump.
“Despite all the speculation in the press and elsewhere, I am firmly committed to staying in this race, to running this race to the end, and to beating Donald Trump,” Biden asserted in the letter as Congress reconvened after a recess.
Acknowledging calls from nine House Democrats urging him to step aside due to concerns about his age and debate performance, Biden emphasized that his candidacy reflects the will of Democratic voters nationwide. “They have chosen me to be the nominee of the party,” Biden wrote, underscoring the democratic process within the party.
Biden, who also spoke to NBC’s “Morning Joe,” defended his candidacy, highlighting strong support from voters during recent campaign events. “I wanted to make sure I was right that the average voter still wanted Joe Biden. We have large crowds, enthusiastic crowds,” Biden stated, affirming his popularity among Democratic voters.
“The bottom line here is that we’re not going anywhere. I am not going anywhere,” Biden concluded, emphasizing his determination to unify the party and confront Donald Trump in the upcoming presidential election.
As lawmakers reconvene in Washington this week, the debate within Democratic ranks over Biden’s candidacy is expected to continue, with ongoing discussions about the party’s strategy to defeat Trump in November.
