Once-close relationship between Princess Kate and Prince Harry is reportedly at an all-time low, with no signs of mending the rift. Royal biographer Emily Andrews reveals that Kate’s battle with cancer has further highlighted the distance between the two, with Harry notably absent from her support circle.
A Strained Relationship
Princess Kate, who was previously very close to Prince Harry, now finds herself separated from her brother-in-law. According to Emily Andrews, Kate’s family has been her pillar of strength during her cancer treatment, while Harry’s support has been conspicuously missing. This absence was particularly evident during Kate’s first public appearance at Trooping the Colour, where Harry was nowhere to be seen.
Changing Dynamics
Harry, 39, once referred to Kate as “the sister I never had, but always wanted.” Their relationship, however, has changed significantly. Andrews writes in Closer magazine, “What has kept her going are her family and friends rallying around. Though sadly, the same can’t be said for her brother-in-law, who she was once close to. Now she’s faced with her darkest days, where has Harry been?”
New Life and Old Wounds
With Harry’s new life in the US, high-profile TV appearances, and his controversial memoir “Spare,” it seems unlikely that Kate would turn to him for support. Andrews continues, “Surely illness is one of the most powerful reasons to reunite and to put the past firmly in the history books? Instead, the wedge appears to be even larger, with no sign of a bridge to connect the pair.”
The Meghan Markle Factor
The tension between Kate and Harry reportedly escalated after Meghan Markle joined the Royal Family. The stress peaked in 2018 during preparations for Harry and Meghan’s wedding. In “Spare,” Harry recounts a disagreement over Princess Charlotte’s flower girl dress that led to a fallout between Kate and Meghan. According to Harry, a text argument left Meghan in tears, although Kate later sent flowers and an apology note.
A New Chapter
In 2020, Harry and Meghan stepped back from their Royal duties and moved to Montecito, California. This decision has further strained Harry’s relationships within the Royal Family, including with Kate.
The Mirror has reached out to representatives of both Harry and Kate for comments, but the growing distance between the two remains a poignant reminder of how personal and public lives can collide, leaving deep and lasting impacts on relationships.
