Actor Alan Ritchson, renowned for his portrayal of the lead character in the hit Amazon series “Reacher,” recently made headlines with his unreserved criticism of former President Donald Trump and his relationship with the Christian community. In a candid interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ritchson lamented the distortion of Christian principles in today’s political landscape.

Ritchson, whose portrayal of Jack Reacher has garnered acclaim from audiences across the political spectrum, emphasized the core Christian value of loving others. He expressed disappointment in the alignment of some Christians with Trump, despite what he perceives as the former president’s moral shortcomings.

“I’m a Christian simply because of what Jesus calls us to do: love others until death,” Ritchson asserted. “It doesn’t mean we’re all to be hung on a cross, but how can I suffer for you? That is a beautiful thing.”

The actor did not shy away from criticizing Trump, labeling him as an alleged “rapist and a con man.” He expressed bewilderment at the widespread support Trump receives from certain segments of the Christian community, stating, “Trump is a rapist and a con man, and yet the entire Christian church seems to treat him like he’s their poster child, and it’s unreal. I don’t understand it.”

While Trump has not been convicted of rape in a criminal court, a civil verdict in the E. Jean Carroll case found him liable for “sexual abuse.” Judge Lewis Kaplan’s past ruling characterized Trump’s actions in a damning light, stating that Trump ‘raped’ her as many people commonly understand the word ‘rape.’

Ritchson’s critique extended beyond Trump to include his disillusionment with the Catholic Church, despite his mother’s staunch Catholicism. He condemned the church’s handling of alleged abuse scandals and emphasized the importance of holding accountable those within the institution who have been accused of predatory behavior.

“It’s worth saying that the atrocities happening in the church, actively covered up even to this day with people not being held accountable, is repulsive,” Ritchson remarked. “I can’t for one second support the Catholic Church while there are still cardinals, bishops, and priests being passed around with known pedophilic tendencies.”

Alan Ritchson’s candid commentary reflects a growing sentiment among some within the entertainment industry and beyond regarding the intersection of religion, politics, and morality. As debates surrounding these issues continue, Ritchson’s outspokenness serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining integrity and holding individuals and institutions accountable for their actions.
