Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, the embattled rapper and mogul, faces new accusations of violent behavior from Danyel Smith, former editor-in-chief at Vibe magazine. Smith revealed in a recent statement that Combs allegedly threatened her over an editorial dispute dating back to 1997.
According to Smith, tensions arose when Combs demanded to preview the magazine cover featuring himself adorned with white, feathered wings, a concept he reportedly disliked. When Smith declined to show him the cover, citing Vibe’s policy against such previews, Combs allegedly became hostile.
“He told me he would see me ‘dead in the trunk of a car,'” Smith recalled. Despite her immediate demand to retract the threat, Combs allegedly responded with aggression, leaving Smith fearful for her safety.
This incident occurred amidst Combs’ legal troubles, including multiple lawsuits alleging sexual assault and physical abuse, as well as a federal investigation into his alleged involvement in sex trafficking.
Smith further detailed efforts by Vibe staff to ensure her safety during Combs’ subsequent visits to their offices. Despite a faxed apology from Combs afterward, the magazine’s computer servers mysteriously disappeared shortly thereafter, prompting concerns about potential retaliation.
Combs, who has settled previous legal disputes, including a recent lawsuit from ex-girlfriend Cassie, denying all allegations, has yet to comment on Smith’s accusations.
The ongoing revelations add to the complex legal and public relations challenges faced by Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, whose reputation continues to be scrutinized amidst these serious allegations.
