This revelation comes amid the news that special counsel Jack Smith obtained Trump’s cell phone for evidence related to the 2020 election overthrow attempt. NYU law professor Andrew Weissman explained the potential significance, emphasizing the use of phone records to establish a precise timeline.
The prosecution will aim to present a jury with exact details of what occurred on January 6th and the surrounding days. The phone could reveal who Trump spoke to and possibly show images of the Capitol events, Weissman stated.
He pointed out that Jack Smith’s filing mentioned capturing websites and images from the phone, with the possibility of recovering deleted content. Leonnig added that examining both sent and drafted-but-unsent tweets is crucial for a comprehensive understanding of Trump’s communications during that critical time.
