Recent polls indicate a significant advantage for former President Donald Trump over President Joe Biden as the November presidential election approaches, particularly in Texas. According to a report by Newsweek on Saturday, June 29, 2024, analysis from FiveThirtyEight shows Trump with a 7.5-point lead. The latest data places Trump at 43.7 percent of the vote, compared to Biden’s 36.2 percent, with independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. securing 10.8 percent.
This marks a noticeable shift from previous standings in late May, where Trump held an 11.1-point lead. Despite Biden’s slight improvement since then, the gap remains substantial, raising eyebrows among political analysts and voters alike.
The University of Texas at Tyler’s Center for Opinion Research conducted a poll from June 11 to 20, surveying 1,144 registered voters across Texas. The results revealed Trump leading with 46 percent support, followed by Biden at 38 percent. Kennedy garnered 12 percent, with minor percentages going to Libertarian Party candidate Chase Oliver and Green Party nominee Jill Stein.
In head-to-head matchups, Trump maintains a six-point lead over Biden, polling at 46 percent against Biden’s 40 percent. Similarly, a YouGov poll conducted between May 31 and June 9 among 1,200 registered Texas voters showed Trump leading Biden by 46 percent to 39 percent in a direct contest.
While Biden’s support appears stronger in Virginia, where he leads Trump by 2.2 percent according to RealClearPolling’s analysis of recent data, the focus remains on his ability to close the gap in Texas. Following a televised debate in Atlanta, concerns over Biden’s performance have surfaced, impacting his standing among voters.
At a recent rally in South Carolina, Biden addressed these concerns, acknowledging challenges related to his age and debating ability but emphasizing his experience and determination. “I know how to get things done,” Biden asserted, underscoring his commitment to honesty and leadership.
As the campaign intensifies, Biden’s resilience will be tested in Texas, where his ability to sway undecided voters remains critical. The upcoming months leading to the election will be pivotal in determining whether Biden can regain ground and challenge Trump’s lead in the Lone Star State.
