Strategic move to solidify his influence over the Republican Party, former President Donald Trump has strategically placed his loyalists, with his daughter-in-law Lara Trump at the forefront, in key positions within the Republican National Committee (RNC).
At a recent meeting in Houston on Friday, March 8, 2024, the RNC, which serves as the party’s primary fundraising and organizing arm, witnessed Trump’s allies securing crucial roles with unanimous support, as reported by Digital Journal.
Taking the reins as the new RNC chair is Michael Whatley, leader of the Republican Party in North Carolina, a state where Trump secured victories in both the 2016 and 2020 elections. Whatley replaces Ronna McDaniel, who fell out of favor with Trump.
Lara Trump, the wife of Trump’s son Eric and a prominent campaign surrogate, assumes the role of RNC co-chair. Her responsibilities include mobilizing grassroots supporters and donors, further strengthening Trump’s grip on the party’s operations.
Chris LaCivita, a seasoned campaign strategist from Trump’s re-election bid, has been appointed as the RNC chief operating officer, tasked with overseeing day-to-day committee operations.
Trump, widely anticipated to run for president again in 2024, publicly endorsed the trio, describing them as “highly talented, battle-tested, and smart” in a statement last month. He specifically praised Lara Trump as an “extremely talented communicator” dedicated to the principles embodied by the “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) slogan.
Despite his electoral defeat in 2020, Trump maintains popularity among Republican voters, and his maneuvers within the RNC aim to sustain his influence, raise funds for his political and legal endeavors, and address issues like his claims of widespread voter fraud in the 2020 election.
Both Lara Trump and Michael Whatley, echoing Trump’s rhetoric, expressed their commitment to working towards his re-election in 2024. Whatley, in his acceptance speech, declared the RNC as the forefront of a movement dedicated to securing Trump’s presidency.
Lara Trump emphasized the party’s singular goal on election day, quoting her father-in-law: “bigly.” She framed the upcoming elections as a battle between good and evil, transcending traditional party lines.
Defending Trump’s use of the Save America political action committee (PAC) to cover legal expenses, Lara Trump asserted that supporting Trump’s legal defense aligns with the interests of Republican voters. She assured that every penny from the RNC will be dedicated to electing Donald J. Trump as president and safeguarding the nation.
