Concerns about Donald Trump’s leadership style have resurfaced, particularly in light of recent comments from a former NBC executive who worked on “The Apprentice.” John D. Miller, who helped elevate Trump to a national celebrity through the reality show, has expressed his regrets and fears about Trump’s ambitions.
During an interview with Vanity Fair’s Gabriel Sherman, Miller revealed that he believes Trump harbors dictatorial desires. When asked about the implications of the upcoming election, Miller hesitated, uncertain about how much of Trump’s rhetoric is genuine and how much is mere bravado. Nonetheless, he expressed alarm over Trump’s threats to media outlets, specifically mentioning Trump’s desire to revoke the licenses of major broadcast networks like CBS, NBC, and ABC.
“I do think that he would like to take CBS off the air and NBC off the air and ABC off the air,” Miller explained. “He wants anyone who says anything negative about him—other than Fox News—off the air.”
When pressed further, Sherman asked Miller directly if he believes Trump wants to be a dictator. Miller responded affirmatively, stating, “I do think he would like to be a dictator.” He reflected on Trump’s first term, noting that the individuals Trump surrounded himself with were somewhat effective, but he warned that this time, Trump is likely to hire “yes-men” and loyalists. Miller cautioned that this shift could lead to a government that functions poorly, or worse, transforms into an authoritarian regime.
Concerns about Trump’s dictatorial ambitions are not isolated. Recently, retired General Mark Milley, former Defense Secretary Mark Esper, and former White House Chief of Staff John Kelly have voiced similar fears, labeling Trump as a fascist with authoritarian tendencies.
With the 2024 presidential election looming, the stakes are high. Many Americans are reflecting on what a second Trump presidency might mean for the nation’s democratic values. As discussions about Trump’s potential return to power continue, the question remains: how far is he willing to go to secure his vision of America?
