Pam Hemphill, a former Trump supporter recently sentenced to two months in prison for her involvement in the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot, revealed her intention to cast her vote for President Joe Biden in the upcoming 2024 election. The disclosure came during an exclusive interview with CNN host Abby Phillip on Friday’s NewsNight, as reported by Mediaite on December 1, 2023.
Hemphill did not hold back during the interview, expressing her discontent with the former president and shedding light on her perspective of the events that transpired on that fateful day. Describing her experience, she recounted the overwhelming size of the crowd and her initial confusion about the purpose of marching to the Capitol.
As the interview unfolded, Hemphill minced no words in holding former President Donald Trump responsible for the chaos that ensued, stating, “He knew the election wasn’t stolen, and why is he having everybody go down to the Capitol? See, when I got there, the crowd was so big, I couldn’t get through.”
She continued, providing a detailed account of her thoughts as she walked towards the Capitol, suggesting a premeditated plan by Trump to incite the attack. “That’s just my feeling, but no, he’s responsible, because he said, “March down there.” He tries to use “Peacefully.” No, he said, “Go fight like hell.” That’s what he said, and he was talking to the wrong people because they took that literally,” she emphasized.
When asked about the potential consequences for Trump, Hemphill expressed confidence in Department of Justice Special Counsel Jack Smith, currently prosecuting Trump over his attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 election. “I think we can have a lot of faith in Jack Smith. He knows what he’s doing. He’s got the receipts, you know, and I think that, sadly, we’re going to have to wait till court for people to start realizing that Trump has lied about everything and Trump is a criminal, and he needs to have his day in court to be proven what we already know. That he is a criminal. He knows it.”
Hemphill’s unwavering belief in the justice system was evident throughout the interview, with her anticipation that Trump would be held accountable for his alleged crimes.
She concluded the interview by revealing her decision to vote for President Joe Biden in the 2024 election, highlighting a dramatic shift in allegiance from a fervent Trump supporter to a potential Biden supporter. Hemphill also shared what she would say to Trump if given the chance, urging him to retire and get honest, though expressing doubt about his receptiveness to such advice.
As the nation grapples with the aftermath of the January 6 riot, Hemphill’s account and her unexpected political shift underscore the profound impact of the events and the ongoing legal proceedings on individuals’ perspectives within the political landscape.
