During a Bloomberg interview, Zuckerberg described Trump’s reaction to the attack, where he was reportedly shot and sustained a minor injury, as “one of the most bada-s things” he had ever seen. Trump, who was surrounded by Secret Service agents and raised his fist in the air with an American flag after the incident, received high praise from Zuckerberg.
“Seeing Donald Trump get up after getting shot in the face and pump his fist in the air with the American flag is one of the most bada-s things I’ve ever seen in my life,” Zuckerberg remarked. “On some level as an American, it’s like hard to not get kind of emotional about that spirit and that fight, and I think that that’s why a lot of people like the guy.”
This praise has not been well-received by everyone. David Corn, a journalist and MSNBC analyst, took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to criticize Zuckerberg’s remarks. Corn condemned the praise as a dangerous normalization of Trump, who he argues poses a significant threat to American democracy. “Zuck praises an authoritarian who tried to overthrow American democracy. This is how normalization works,” Corn wrote, encapsulating the concerns of many on the left.
The backlash from both sides of the political aisle highlights the contentious relationship between tech leaders and political figures. Conservatives, who have long accused Zuckerberg of bias and censorship, view his praise of Trump as disingenuous and opportunistic. Many have not forgiven Zuckerberg for suspending Trump’s Meta accounts following the January 6, 2021, Capitol riots, which they see as undue interference.
