Former President Donald Trump has officially thrown his support behind Republican Rep. Jim Jordan’s bid for House Speaker. The endorsement was announced by Republican Rep. Troy Nehls of Texas in a tweet.
Just had a great conversation with President Trump about the Speaker’s race,” Nehls posted on Twitter Thursday evening. “He is endorsing Jim Jordan, and I believe Congress should listen to the leader of our party. I fully support Jim Jordan for Speaker of the House.”
This development comes after Republican Rep. Kevin McCarthy was removed as Speaker of the House in a vote that ended 216-210, with eight Republicans joining 208 Democrats in favor of a motion to vacate the chair.
Jim Jordan currently serves as the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee and leads the committee’s Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government. He was also appointed as one of the key figures in the impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden, alongside Republican Reps. James Comer of Kentucky and Jason Smith of Missouri, by then-Speaker McCarthy on September 12.
It’s important to note that House Majority Leader Steve Scalise of Louisiana is also vying for the position of Speaker to succeed McCarthy.

Jordan, McCarthy, and Scalise will now compete for support within the party as they vie for one of the most prominent positions in the United States Congress.
The Republican Party’s decision on the next Speaker will have significant implications for the direction and priorities of the party in the coming years, as they look to make gains in the midterm elections and beyond.
Stay tuned for further developments as this story unfolds, and the Republican Party makes its choice for the next Speaker of the House.
